Live for Today, Live one day at a Time

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

We all have some kind of purpose on this earth,
It's not to hurt people or tell them their worth.
Everyone was put here with an equal chance,
Take a look around you, take a good long glance.

Some were meant to heal, and some to teach,
Some are used to build, and some to reach.
You may not know your purpose just yet,
God will tell you, when he knows you are set.

Don't rush your fate, it has already been planned.
And God will always be there to lend a helping hand.
You will go through times that are really rough,
But you will always have someone, when the going gets tough.

Don't judge others, for when you do,
There is always someone else, judging you.
Think about things before they are said,
Say your prayers before going off to bed.

Take time just to sit, and observe all things,
A flower and it's petals, or a bird and it's wings.
For when you just look at what is around,
A new aspect on life could be what you have found.

Live for today, live one day at a time.
Live for yourself, and for God, that's no crime.
For when you do all these things to make your life great,
You will find your own way to the pearly white gate.

14 Principles of Management of Henri Fayol

The 14 Management Principles from Henri Fayol (1841-1925) are:-

1.Division of Work. Specialization allows the individual to build up experience, and to continuously improve his skills. Thereby he can be more productive.
2.Authority. The right to issue commands, along with which must go the balanced responsibility for its function.
3.Discipline. Employees must obey, but this is two-sided: employees will only obey orders if management play their part by providing good leadership.
4.Unity of Command. Each worker should have only one boss with no other conflicting lines of command.
5.Unity of Direction. People engaged in the same kind of activities must have the same objectives in a single plan. This is essential to ensure unity and coordination in the enterprise. Unity of command does not exist without unity of direction but does not necessarily flows from it.
6.Subordination of individual interest (to the general interest). Management must see that the goals of the firms are always paramount.
7.Remuneration. Payment is an important motivator although by analyzing a number of possibilities, Fayol points out that there is no such thing as a perfect system.
8.Centralization (or Decentralization). This is a matter of degree depending on the condition of the business and the quality of its personnel.
9.Scalar chain (Line of Authority). A hierarchy is necessary for unity of direction. But lateral communication is also fundamental, as long as superiors know that such communication is taking place. Scalar chain refers to the number of levels in the hierarchy from the ultimate authority to the lowest level in the organization. It should not be over-stretched and consist of too-many levels.
10.Order. Both material order and social order are necessary. The former minimizes lost time and useless handling of materials. The latter is achieved through organization and selection.
11.Equity. In running a business a ‘combination of kindliness and justice’ is needed. Treating employees well is important to achieve equity.
12.Stability of Tenure of Personnel. Employees work better if job security and career progress are assured to them. An insecure tenure and a high rate of employee turnover will affect the organization adversely.
13.Initiative. Allowing all personnel to show their initiative in some way is a source of strength for the organization. Even though it may well involve a sacrifice of ‘personal vanity’ on the part of many managers.
14.Esprit de Corps. Management must foster the morale of its employees. He further suggests that: “real talent is needed to coordinate effort, encourage keenness, use each person’s abilities, and reward each one’s merit without arousing possible jealousies and disturbing harmonious relations.”

Fayol's definition of management roles and actions distinguishes between Five Elements:
1.Prevoyance. (Forecast & Plan). Examining the future and drawing up a plan of action. The elements of strategy.
2.To organize. Build up the structure, both material and human, of the undertaking.
3.To command. Maintain the activity among the personnel.
4.To coordinate. Binding together, unifying and harmonizing all activity and effort.
5.To control. Seeing that everything occurs in conformity with established rule and expressed command.

The Pickle Jar

Author Unknown

The years passed. I finished college and took a job in another town. Once, while visiting my parents, I used the phone in their bedroom. Sadly, I noticed that the pickle jar was gone. It had served its purpose and now had been removed.

A lump rose in my throat as I stared at the spot beside the dresser where the jar had always stood. My dad was a man of few words; he never lectured me on the values of determination, perseverance, and faith. The pickle jar had taught me all those virtues far more effectively than the most eloquent of words could have. How fondly I remembered that old jar and its place in my life.

When I married, I told my wife Susan of the significant part that old pickle jar had played in my life as a boy. In my mind, it defined, more than anything else, how much my dad had loved me.

The first Christmas after our daughter Jessica was born we spent the holiday with my parents. After dinner, Mom and Dad sat next to each other on the sofa, taking turns cuddling their first grandchild. Jessica began to whimper softly, and Susan took her from Dad's arms."She probably needs to be changed." she said carrying the baby into my parents' bedroom to diaper her. When Susan came back into the living room, there was a noticeable mist in her eyes.

She handed Jessica back to Dad before taking my hand and leading me into the back bedroom. "Look!" she said softly, her eyes directing me to a spot on the floor beside the dresser.

To my amazement, there, as if it had never been removed, stood the old pickle jar, the bottom already covered with coins. I walked over to the pickle jar, dug down into my pocket, and pulled out a small handful of coins. With a gamut of emotions choking me, I dropped the coins into the jar. I looked up to see Dad, carrying Jessica, had slipped quietly into the room. Our eyes locked, and I knew he was feeling the same emotions I felt. Neither one of us could speak.

We had no need for that. The pickle jar was back in its old spot now with a renewed purpose. I could see the joy in my Dad's eyes as he gently held his granddaughter in his arms. The old pickle jar was new again.

Five Finger Prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a 'sweet duty.'

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right
direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public
opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify.. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger - the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, 'The least shall be the greatest among you.' Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more
effectively.

A Message From Spirit

Throughout your journey and daily happenings, never feel afraid, for I am with you. Wake up each morning and know I am here to guide you and you are loved and accepted. Know in your heart and your inner spirit, inner being I will not guide you where you can't walk.

When you feel like you can't go on, know that I love you with all the heavenly hosts above. Each day for you is blessed, as the skies are above, to become whom you were intended - the key is to love.

When you can love with no doubt and no fear and bring forth the guidance you receive from me through your ear, I give you great gifts, all from the source of love.

The paths you take are filled from above, don't walk off that road and remember that dove. I created you and you are one with me, I know the plans I have for thee. So when in doubt, know I will comfort thee.

I created the rainbow as a symbol for all to see and through this guide, I come to thee. The rainbow of love is within thee. Once you find this, I will come and show thee. You can hear my words and feel my heart for I am the one who asks you to forsake all others along my path.

There will be times you will feel like you are unsure. This is when you knock on my door. For all I will do is help thee to see. I gave you a voice so you speak from me, I gave you ears so you can hear me, I gave you vision so you can see me, I gave you breath so you can breathe through me, I gave you scent so you can smell me, I gave you taste so you could feed from me.

The list of gifts are many and endless; each thought you have you are telling me, each word you speak are they from Me?

Listen to your inner spirit, as this is the flame to me. Once you have served me, all others will see this is the truth, the light, and the way. On this path you will face darkness, as well as light. Listen to me for I will set you free. I hold the key to the throne of all the "unknown".

To Let Go

To let go does not mean to stop caring, it means I can’t do it for someone else.
To let go is not to cut myself off, it’s the realization that I can’t control another.
To let go is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural consequences.
To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to try to change or blame another, it’s to make the most of myself.
To let go is not to care for, but to care about.
To let go is not to fix, but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes, but to allow others to affect their own destinies.
To let go is not to be protective, it’s to permit another to face reality.
To let go is not to criticize, or regulate anyone, but to try to become what I dream I can do.
To let go is to fear less, and to love more.
