The Accidental Engineer.....

Monday, June 16, 2014

Early 2000....An era where people were celebrating the arrival of new millennium. A.A point of time when the decade was changing and hopes were high among people about some changes in their day to day life also.Similarly I was also going through a change in the early months. In came 10th class Board result and phew....got more than 80% marks in Board examination...wanted to join the Armed Forces and then found out that Maths-Science was a required subject to be taken for that and that is the moment I decided my major subjects in higher secondary.Accidentally...

2001-2002....Flunged in XIth exams and covered back in XII board with again more than 80% in kitty, you know those years students with 80% marks were toppers in schools and state not like these days in the second decade of the millennium where an average guy gets 80% and toppers range is always above 95%.....gave defense services exam and rejected...wow,it was the first time I hit failure at bigger level(national). Then what...friends,parents and surroundings gave only one option...ENGINEERING is the thing of tomorrow, you would go for engineering and thus my preparations for engineering entrance begins.Got a call from Technical Recruitment in Defense but parents didn't allow me to go...typical old Indian emotional atyachaar...."You are the eldest son of the family. How can you run away from your responsibilities and join the Defense Force.Who will look after us here...and blah blah blah.."

Those were different years of life like the old congress government of MP made life pathetic for people(more that half a day no electricity, and water comes alternate days),Also I learned two wheeler riding first time in life with an immature rider and hurt badly on legs, hands and face and after learning again under the supervision of an experienced coach finally got my first two wheeler..a second hand kinetic honda worth 16k which was their in my hands for more than 6 to 7 years and many more experiences of life.

Finally cracked the State Pre-Engineering Entrance Exam after one year drop in 2003(which I still regret, why did I took a drop...Oh God!).

2003...Early 2003 saw India's exit from the Cricket world cup Final and middle months saw my entrance in the Government Engineering College of my city.I always wanted Computers as my major degree subject but again parents are always right and as per them Electronics and Communications was the talk of the future. And after that whomsoever we talked they also suggested the same. And guess what, after 4 years of engineering I graduated as an Electronics and Telecommunication Engineer :).

So much influence is their of others in our life, almost at every stage.Strange...most of the times we might not be able to convince ourselves..

2003-2004...First year of engineering...I always thought that communication has to do with computers and electronics means electrons, protons and neutrons combined...and thus electronics and communication engineering is born and thus it would be easy to crack...but hard times were just ahead when my first semester result came...

First Lie of Engineering...Got a grace in Maths-1 in first semester..So what,I never liked maths that much, but grace...first time in life I got a grace, which was hard to digest...so finally decided to lie and did not told my parents and relatives about the grace mark pass-out and just told my aggregate percentage(which was enough for a plateful of scolding).

Got better grades in next semester and decided myself to do better in coming years also and thank God I kept the promise made to myself(my final semester percentage were above 80).Bunked silly practical classes, made live projects, bunked classes and ran back home and lot of mischievous activities are the collection of memories in the mind from that first year of engineering.

2004-2005...Second year of Engineering...Finally something cool to tell about.2nd year make ourself king in engineering colleges.I thought that every beautiful girl in college can become my girlfriend,on the other hand it's a different thing that I was  very shy to talk to anyone but thoughts and fantasy can come for anyone and at anytime.Yes.Fantasy can happen. My first major road accident(which gave me my first fractured hand) taught me that filing FIR's is easy in India but expecting action on it early is a day dream(My FIR became a court case 10 years later).

My first major crush with a beautiful girl in college campus,my first friendly interactions with my seniors in college all these happened in the second year only and also my concept about Electronics and Communications changed from that year only :).

Semesters went on and our thinking about engineering kept on changing.Freedom was experienced from heart.Dreams were their in the eyes.We wanted to change the world.Planning were happening every single day and this is how second year also went on.

2005-2006....Third year of Engineering...My first job in March-2006,was the highlight of the whole engineering at that time, but hardly I realized that this joy can be a pain for next 7 years. My heartbreak with a beautiful girl of college was the second most highlighted event of the year, for which I later realized, that everything happens for something good(my wife is much better than my crush).

Third year of engineering created a spark in the heart about joining a job after finishing the education as quickly as possible, but hardly I knew that these days will be badly missed by me in coming years and I know that somewhere every professional will feel the same in their life at one point of life that those early school and college days were the best and most memorable days of their life but not the job days or the appraisal days as the most innocent part of life is the most remembered and our college and school friends comes in those innocent category(at-least I feel the same) as compared to cunning office colleagues and a scary creature called "BOSS" or "MANAGER" is much more horrible than the HOD of engineering.

2006-2007...Passed my engineering in June-2007 with flying colors(at least I think the same keeping in reference with my first semester marks),and of course getting a degree with 73+ percentages is a good engineering degree.MY farewell,my last huddle with my friends and some seniors as a student were some of the emotional highs of that whole year. And of course India lost the initial round of World Cup Cricket in 2007 and that was one of the negative highlight but was soon covered up by 20-20 World cup win and that too over Pakistan(I did not have cable connection,so saw the final match updates on Doordarshan News).

After my engineering completed,my first organization(TCS) called me for job but wait after a gap of 6 months...phew...again a low in life as I had no idea what to do in those months. My mom kept on saying to sit with my dad and learn about his accounts practice and help him out but I kept on ignoring the same(I will tell you the story after 7 years later).Somehow time just passed by and I went for my first job in southern part of the country,Trivandrum(Kerala).

January-2008...Left my hometown with heavy heart. My father gave me my first mobile phone(independent Nokia mobile,as smart-phones were not in trend those days that much),my brother gave me a gel pen (he is 9 years younger than me) as a gift during the day I left my hometown with heavy heart(Still regretting why I reselled that phone,I could have kept it as a memory with me,but I still have that pen which my brother gave, with me and will always keep it with me).

Trivandrum-2008(January-March)....My first independent exploration and that too in the southern part of the country.Truly amazing, breathtaking trips and unexplainable experiences.Except the job training everything was outstanding. In those 3 months I made a rock solid decision that I am not going to get sucked in job for my lifetime, then what? I don't know, but job is not the way...

March-2008....First posting in Delhi(Gurgaon),that too because of setting(I think most of know the meaning of the word "setting" in India),made me travel from south to north.I covered almost entire India in 2 days of train travel.

Gurgaon was my first destination in job, sorry actually second destination after trivandrum.Spend 1 year and 6 months with lots of experienced gained in the bucket,I moved to bangalore in 2009-July

International Business Machine----July-2009 was the start of my career in the biggest organization of the world for next 2 years in Bangalore. It is the most costliest city of the country and with a pathetic salary from the biggest organization in the world, one of the harsh reality of job strucked me,you cannot enhance your income in a job, limitation always eats you up.

2 years in IBM help me get many new friends and some good experience about south Indian culture. Then a twist happened and I got a government job, indeed two.

Two Probationary Officer jobs in 2 different leading public sector banks came in my kitty but both were rejected by me.Alas,I had guts...Not many will take a decision like this but I did,and also I don't regret it.

Bangalore provided me guts to look after business opportunities on a serious note as I was too much fed up with my job.Simple reason, job always has a limited growth and manager always sucks you.

Some ventures which were started part time got failed and one full time business was started called as marriage with a lovely lady who eventually became love of my life and this would be my best investment in LIFE where I am getting and will continue to get best outcomes in the form of love, care, affection and many other intangibles.

But finally 2014 made me realized completely that yes I am an accidental Engineer and that job is and will never be my cup of tea.Decided to put down papers in my final job on 26-June-2014 and guess what,I would be helping my father in his practices in my hometown(This is where I regret that why I didn't listened to my mother 7 years back...But better late then never).

I am too much excited to start my new life with my wife, my parents and brother again in my hometown. The Lost World which is coming back to me again.Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar,Aur Nai Beginning Ke Liye Main Hoon Taiyaar

JOB always has and will have limitations,it will suck you, squeeze you and take away the invaluable from you...your relationships, your emotions, your home, your peace of mind and many more..

Decide to do something in life.I am not criticizing job as many people do it and are more successful than me but my talk says that find out what you really want in life and if job doesn't satisfy those needs than please just don't keep it doing for the sake of doing.

I can get much better in life by not doing a job and starting something on my own, working for myself and my society.I can be really myself when I am free but not when I am on a bond with a Company which least bothers about me.

Can I get back my lost 7 years back...surely No,nor I can repay the loss but utilizing next coming years to serve my people,my city,my country by being myself for the sake of me and my family.

Can I justify being an accidental engineer?I really can't...so choose your path in LIFE wisely as everyone might not get a second chance as I am getting(or rather boldly snatching from destiny).

Can a job or a pay hike replace the most valuable moments in LIFE...Never,then for what we are stuck in a rat-race.Why can't we enjoy nature's beauty and God given LIFE as a free bird as I have decided to do by setting my own limitations myself and not bound to be under someone else's set limitations...Think?

How strange it is that we wish to wear high brands but we feel most comfortable in payjamas,we wish to sit in the Taj and Marriott with elite job class people but we enjoy roadside tea with friends and with the people we love,we wish to own big cars and bungalows and yet we talk our heart out only while walking down a long road,we might have 64 gb ipods and latest smart-phones filled with songs but sometimes a song on the radio brings a smile that can't be compared....can all these small things in life that we really enjoy be with us in today'stressed fill high paying jobs...THINK

How many ENGINEERS and so called high pay getting IT associated really wanted to become that only in LIFE...how many of us had some habits or hobbies which we wanted to pursue in life, may be singing, dancing, being a writer or being a social worker or anything but today we ended up in becoming an accidental engineer.Don't you agree?

I am an accidental engineer...I chose to....but not for the whole life.In next few months I am starting a journey of being myself....Can you also have such guts...?THINK...

Views about Gym...(Personal Experience)

Sunday, September 8, 2013

I always had many people surrounded myself giving different opinions about gym. Different myths, believes or opinions. But until and unless you experience something on your own, your belief system will be totally dependent on other people's opinions and it might be right or wrong. So experience and make you own belief system, this is what I believe(in most of the cases).Though you cannot apply this every time and everywhere but most of the time you should have your own concrete belief systems based on your experiences in life.

I also joined gym recently(2 weeks back as I am writing this article). It is true that initial few days you will feel terrible pain in your muscles, joints and especially when you have not done gymming before (and most of the people fall in this category).I also experienced the same but after that I found that if you are able to continue those initial few days(may be the first week), you will be continuing the GYM or otherwise you will quit and may be never join(until and unless any medical expert recommends).

Gymming stretches your muscle and body to bring it to regular or rather good shape which otherwise you are anyhow not having(that is why you join GYM mostly).Believe me if you go through the initial few days pain,it will be a good experience for you and you will definitely gain good output from the efforts you are putting in GYM.

Most gyms have a number of facilities, which usually include the latest forms of fitness equipment. This is an important element of any gym as it provides the most effective means of exercise. If an individual is constrained by time constraints, then ideally they want to exercise as efficiently as possible. By utilizing the latest fitness equipment available, their workout will be far more effective. There is a huge array of differing types of equipment which caters for all manner of requirements from free weights for muscle-building and toning through to jogging machines with inclines for cardio vascular workout.

Also if you’ve never worked out before and feel like you’d have no idea what to do, help is at hand: personal trainers are fully-trained members of staff who are experts at helping you get the results you want. They will design a workout plan designed specifically for you, to help you achieve your goals, whether that’s losing weight, increasing your stamina or being able to lift heavier weights.

I personally benefitted a lot joining a gym and would definitely like to make exercising a regular habit now onwards.

JK Rowling's Secret Success Weapon

Friday, May 3, 2013

All she ever wanted to do was write. But few believed in her.

She ended up as a single mom. Collecting social benefits checks--just to get food onto the table. For her and her child.

On a trip from Manchester to London in 1990, her train was delayed. And an idea burst into her imagination. About a boy who didn't know what he was.

She called this kid Harry Potter. And she wrote about his adventures.

12 publishers rejected the book. A small house called Bloomsbury Press eventually agreed to publish it. But even then, the author was told "you'll never make any money on children's books."

Yet, the book caught fire. Touched the hearts of millions. Inspired a new generation to read.

Of course, the woman is JK Rowling.

And she's sold 400,000,000 books. And built a fortune of $800,000,000.

From an idea. About a young wizard. With a brave heart.

Her secret "weapon"?...

... JK Rowling DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE DOUBTS OF HER CRITICS.

"For some to love you, some must loathe you," she brilliantly observed.

And she's right. All visionaries are initially ridiculed before they are revered.

All enormously successful people first meet with rejection, resistance and yes, sometimes outright hatred. Criticism truly is the price of greatness. And you really need to be so invested in your dream + abilities + passion that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will knock you off your game.

So be strong. Go for world-class. And when you get knocked down, dust yourself off, and stay true to your loftiest visions. In the end, you'll be grateful you did.

Significance of 7 Vows in Indian Marriages

Monday, January 7, 2013

When it comes to Indian marriages, words like big, fat, extravagant, pomp and show come to our mind at once. However, irrespective of the style and size of  the wedding, one thing that remains common in all Hindu marriages is the 'seven vows' signified by the sacred 'saat pheras' around fire or 'agni', which  is one of the most imperative rituals of Indian weddings. With each 'phera' the couple makes a vow, a commitment with strong mythological roots, which is to be lived forever and more, its only then that a couple is accepted as husband and wife for the next many lives to come.

These seven vows are supposed to serve as an anchor to keep the couple going through all the ups and downs of life together, as husband and wife tied to each other in a sacred relationship.

First vow
The couple appeals to the almighty to shower blessings in the form of pure and nourishing food with a respectful and noble life. The groom pledges to provide welfare and happiness to his wife and children, whereas the bride swears to shoulder all responsibilities for the welfare of the groom's entire family.

Second vow
The groom requests the bride to be his strength so that he can provide security and protect the family with courage. The bride agrees to abide by, while demanding eternal love and undivided attention.

Third vow

The couple pleads for wisdom, wealth, and prosperity in order to live a content and satisfied life. They pledge to remain spiritually committed and the bride assures the groom that by the virtue of true love and devotion she will remain a chaste wife.

Fourth vow

The groom thanks his would-be wife for bringing auspiciousness, happiness, and sacredness in his life. In return, the bride takes an oath to serve and please her husband in every way possible. Together, they also pledge to take care and respect their elders in the family.

Fifth vow
The importance of the fifth vow is to pray for the welfare of all the living things in this Universe and begetting a noble breed. The couple also prays to almighty to bless each other's friends and family with happiness and well-being.

Sixth vow
In the sixth vow, God is invoked to bless the couple for bountiful seasons and long lived togetherness. The groom wishes that his wife would glut his life with joy and peace; while the bride provides assurance that she would participate with her husband in all his noble and divine acts.

Seventh vow
This is the last vow adding completion to the ceremony. Here the couple pleads for the long lasting relationship, enriched with understanding and loyalty. They take an oath to nourish their relationship with love and honesty and be together with each other forever not only in this life, but also in the lives to come.

Even though different religions and cultures have their own unique set of vows and different ways to perform them, the basic meaning of all remains the same 'commitment', a vow of being spiritually united as one. It is a way to assure your partner that he/she is worthy of your love and you are willing to submit, 'till death do you part'.

True love is all that you need to fulfill all the vows mentioned above; what according to you are the importance of these 'pheras'? Do let us know through comments.

Persistence

Life is easy, change is easy, and everything is easy. If only this was true. How often have we looked at successful people in almost any walk of life and wished we could have what they have. It seems so easy for them. Well, nothing is as easy as it seems. But, what makes the difference; what has made other people's success look easy?

Not to long ago, I was faced with what appeared to be a brick wall. After leaving a corporate environment for greener pastures, I found that the other side wasn't any greener, nor did there seem to be any grass at all. No matter what I attempted to do, I was invariably knocked back to square one. So, I started another business venture, again to be knocked back to square one.

I began to doubt my own confidence; maybe I had made a fatal error. Maybe, I should go back to what I did before. At least, it seemed to be a much more secure and safer environment. As I contemplated my future, I received a card in the mail from a friend of mine who knew how I was struggling. The card read: "Persistence; persistence prevails when all else fails".

I sat there reading that card, once, twice, three times. What did these words mean for me? Were these words just that; words, nothing more? When you're faced with an uncertain future, when all you try seems to go nowhere, maybe there was more truth to these words than I realized.

Maybe, I hadn't found the right recipe for success. On the other hand, maybe I had given up too soon. Ever heard the expression 'back up and re-load'. Well, if you haven't, it meant to me that I should start again but this time internalizing the words "persistence prevails when all else fails".

To make a long story short, I did persevere; persistence paid off with a good dose of patience realizing that a new beginning doesn't emerge to success overnight. After all, in my former corporate career, I had invested years of education and training to become successful. Why should it be any different when I started a new business venture?

Failure is the incapacity to learn from your mistakes. Success is the capacity to learn, to persist, to persevere in order to reach your goal.

You shall....

You shall not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities.
You shall not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.
You shall not carry grudges, for they are the heaviest of all life's burdens.
You shall face each problem as it comes. You can only handle one at a time anyway.
You shall not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows.
You shall not borrow other people's problems. They can better care for them than you.
You shall not try to relive yesterday for good or ill, it is forever gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life and be happy now!
You shall be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own.
You shall not become "bogged down" by frustration, for 90% of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive action.
You shall count your blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one.

Law of Expectations

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Simply stated, the Law of Expectations tells us that whatever one expects, with confidence, becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. When one expects with confidence that good things will happen, they usually will. If, on the other hand, one expects a negative outcome to a situation, then the outcome will usually be negative.

Our expectations play a key role in our own outcomes and they also have a remarkable effect on the people around us. What we expect from those around us determines our attitude toward them more than any other factor. In turn, the people around us tend to reflect our attitudes right back at us - whether the expectations and attitudes are positive or negative, good or bad.

Dr. Robert Rosenthal of the University of California – Riverside, has spent more than 40 years studying the idea that one’s expectations for the behaviour of another, can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. His years of experimentation show this to be true. In his landmark book, “Pygmalion in the Classroom”, Rosenthal tells of case after case where teachers were told that a student, or sometimes a whole class, was extremely bright and was predicted to make a quantum leap in academic performance in the coming year. Even though the students were randomly chosen from the school population at large, provided the teacher believed that the student or students were exceptional and expected them to excel, the students performed at much higher levels than other students in the same or similar classes, and vastly better than could have been predicted by previous grades or behaviour.

The Arbinger Institute (http://www.arbinger.com) has published a terrific book called “Leadership and Self Deception – Getting out of the Box”. While the book focuses on developing superior leadership skills through being true to one’s self, they talk a lot about the way we view others and the way we expect others to act – based on our own internal prejudices. They refer to this as “being inside the box in how we view others.” It is not until we choose to view others as they really are (i.e. human beings with valuable experiences, viewpoints and inputs) that we will be able to connect at a deeper level and achieve higher degrees of understanding and communication. In other words, it is not until our expectations of others change that we can change our own experiences with them.

The obvious stands here before us – judgment. This is the downfall of many of us, when we stand in judgment of another we must be very sure that we ourselves are absolutely clean and that we are not projecting something on to the other. We need to be absolutely and brutally honest with oneself here. A wonderful clue is to monitor what is going on on the inside. If there is even the slightest hint of a reaction to a person – then there is something that you are projecting onto that person. Know then that you are placing an expectation on that person – and it will be reflected back to you. That is the law of expectations.

Take a moment to think about your own expectations – of yourself and those around you. Your expectations exert a powerful influence on people and events, for good or for bad, so be extremely careful!

What You Can Do

There are a few things that you can start doing immediately that will help you to harness the awesome power of the Law of Expectations:

1.Always expect the best! Assume the very best of intentions on the part of those around you. There is no better place to start than home. Tell your spouse and children on a regular basis that you believe in them, that you think they are wonderful, that you love them and that you are proud of them. Expecting food !!!

2.Practice these same behaviours with your staff and co-workers. The very best managers, entrepreneurs, and salespeople are "high expectations" people. Tells its own story does it not !!

3.Expect the best of yourself. Focus on your unlimited potential and imagine that you can accomplish anything that you put your mind to. Imagine that your greatest moments lie ahead and that everything that has happened to you up to now has merely been a preparation for the great things that are yet to come.

There is no mystery to achieving success - it is available to all of us. One need only be aware of, understand and live in accordance with Universal Law!

Law of Decision

The law of decision states that the ability to set the correct course of action and stick to it at all costs will determine the extent of your success and manifestation. Below you will find some key basics regarding the law of decision:

1. Decision means choosing a course of action and sticking to it.

This means that every other possibility apart from that one course of action has to be eliminated completely. If you do not do this, you were not making a decision in the first place. To stick to the decision completely requires a fundamental change in the state of your consciousness.

2. Refining and being careful of your habits is crucial for correct decisions.

Habits are the systems of mind and body which you have in place, and which bound your life. Your power lies in being able to only modify your habits, one step at a time. Therefore, to correctly form decisions and stick to them will require you to modify your habits sufficiently, so that sticking to your decision becomes easy. In any other case, it will become difficult.

3. Decision and the refining of habits to create it rests on single minded focus.

When you have singleness of purpose and can move in a hell-bent nature directly towards your goals, you are in the perfect mental situation to create rapid changes in consciousness. The state of consciousness will determine your state of mind and body, and changing this state through singleness to the goal gives you the necessary foundation by which you can progress to make changes from.

4. Decision is easier to perform when in the right environment.

If you have the wrong type of people around you, you are bound to procrastinate, be mentally slow, and develop a tendency towards inefficiency. However, the true nature to create manifestation must be one of getting into the right environment. So even though existence may be mental in nature, we must acknowledge that we have a physical presence in a physical environment, and use this basis to modify our lives, by getting into the right environment.

5. Making correct decisions lies on clarity of mind.

This goes without saying, but you would be surprised by how many people do not understand this. Clarity of mind means becoming emotionless, free of judgements and free of all thoughts. This is important because when we have any kind of thought in our mind, it acts as a filter to make you focus on specific types of actions and decisions. When your mind is clear, you are allowing the unconscious to creep up into your awareness without you knowing, to give the right type of thoughts to you.

What To Expect/Conclusion

When you learn to refine your habits correctly, you have a foundation which will allow you to set your decisions in the correct way. When you do this, you can commit to a course of action and reap the benefits that come with it. However, decision on its own will not lead to successful manifestation, and so you must commit to learning the whole manifestation system if you are to succeed.

Law of Belief

The law of belief states that whatever you believe, you will see. Below you will find some basic understandings of how to apply this law, and how it relates to manifestation:

1. You must defend your beliefs actively.

That is, you cannot expect the beliefs you have to remain, unless you actively defend them against other erroneous or conflicting beliefs. The best way to do this is to expand your beliefs by making others believe the way you do. This allows you to create a coherent reality where everyone around you backs up the way you think, and makes your belief and frame stronger.

2. The strength of your frame will determine the success of your beliefs.

That is, the coherence of your beliefs to project a single model and version of reality and how well you stick to them will determine the success of your beliefs. You cannot afford to have conflicting beliefs as this will weaken your frame and make it susceptible to other foreign influences.

3. Coherent beliefs create clarity of mind for manifestation.

That is, when there are no conflicting messages within your mind, and everything sets a coherent model of reality, your mind becomes clear and can correctly access its deeper mental resources. Clarity and singleness of mind acts as a mind-digging device, in which the depth and connection into deeper levels of consciousness increases, as the coherent, singleness and clarity increases.

4. You must fully understand why you believe the things you believe.

From understanding, comes evolution of consciousness and manifestation. This is because as your consciousness changes for the better, so does the manifestations which you can bring up. Understanding will bring strong mental manifestations in all areas relating to the belief. It also allows your habits to evolve and change much quicker.

5. Beliefs must not be tampered with.

That is, do not change what works. If the belief which you have is working towards your manifestations, then don't change it. This is regardless of whether you think the belief is good or not. What works must be kept. However, beliefs which are clearly poor (e.g. negative beliefs) must be eliminated at all cost.

What To Expect/Conclusion

Maintaining a strong hold of your beliefs, and being careful what kind of beliefs you listen or pay attention to, will determine your success in setting a coherent mindset of reality, and the subsequent manifestation which results. Beliefs are extremely subtle, so it is easy for the wrong beliefs to creep into our mind without us realising. It is therefore necessary to understand how and what causes these beliefs to creep in, and what we can do to stop it, to therefore ensure we can keep our manifestations going at top-speed.
