Men have constantly neglected their health in the past and tried to rough it out. All those various aches and pains are generally overseen and treated as something trivial. While in your youth it is easy to get away with excuses, as you age it could mean something worse. There are some symptoms that if persistent, you should not ignore.
Chest pain : This is one of the biggest signs to be careful of. If you feel an enormous weight on your chest, head to the hospital. Signs of a heart attack tend to be less obvious with a pain in the arm pain, jaw, sweating and shortness of breath. If you feel a pain after rigorous exercise it could be that your heart is not getting enough blood.
Short of breath : It’s natural to feel tired out after a long jog or a game of tennis. But if you find yourself breathless while lying in bed or after climbing two flights of stairs, it’s time to visit your doctor. It could be a sign of weakness of the heart and should be taken seriously.
Sudden weight loss : While there are thousands of people trying to reduce the flab, there are others who lose on their own without trying. If your clothes are suddenly not fitting and you haven’t altered your eating routine, then it could be a sign of something else. Check for an overactive thyroid gland.
Blood in the urine : It may sound a little creepy to check your urine but there there shouldn’t be any blood in your urine or stool. Anything from cysts to kidney stones or infection can be the cause as can cancer of the kidneys or bladder.
Change in frequency of urination : If you find yourself running to the toilet too many times or getting pain while passing urine, it could mean an enlarged prostate. The gland grows as men age and can cause benign prostatic hyperplasia. If you identify it in time, you can prevent its progression. Prostate cancer has similar symptoms. Increased visits to the bathroom could signal diabetes.
Swelling of the leg : Swelling could be caused due to fluid accumulation in your feet, ankles or legs and may be a sign of heart, kidney or liver disease. There are certain medications that can help reduce the swelling and it is important to find the cause. Visit a doctor and get some tests done.
Skin scars : Many people ignore wounds, especially when they are on some nondescript part of the body. Skin ulcers, that don’t heal within a few days should be treated seriously. They may be a signal of a problem with your circulation. Wounds that still remain could also mean diabetes. If it becomes larger or changes color, it could even be skin cancer. Go get it checked out.
